ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The second of three teens convicted of the beating deaths of two homeless men back in 2014 was sentenced Tuesday.
Nathaniel Carrillo pleaded “no contest” to three charges in July including first degree murder, second degree murder and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
A judge sentence the 18-year-old to 26.5 years behind bars.
Carrillo, then 16, murdered two homeless men with two other teens in 2014. Police say Carrillo, along with 15-year-old Gilbert Tafoya and 18-year-old Alex Rios, killed Allison Gorman and Kee Thompson with bricks and cinder blocks in a dirt lot near 60th Street and Central Avenue.
Rios went to trial and received nearly 70 years behind bars.
Tafoya agreed to testify against the other two teens and was able to plead guilty to a lesser charge of second degree murder.
Thompson’s family members were in court Tuesday. His sister broke down as she described her brother and also what they thought should happen to Carrillo.
The prosecution and the defense both agreed on 26.5 in prison for Carrillo. The judge sentenced Carrillo to 44 years but suspended 18 of them.
Tafoya faces up to 20 years in prison. His sentencing has not been set. It was delayed until Carrillo’s and Rios’ cases were completed.Warning: file_get_contents(): https:// wrapper is disabled in the server configuration by allow_url_fopen=0 in /hermes/bosweb26a/b360/ipg.sbnotebookcom/wp-content/themes/goodnews5/framework/functions/posts_share.php on line 151 Warning: file_get_contents(https://plusone.google.com/_/+1/fastbutton?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.cjnotebook.com%2Fteen-charged-killing-homeless-men-sentenced%2F): failed to open stream: no suitable wrapper could be found in /hermes/bosweb26a/b360/ipg.sbnotebookcom/wp-content/themes/goodnews5/framework/functions/posts_share.php on line 151
