The No. 7 NFL Jersey
I bleed Cowboy blue. I have hated the San Francisco 49ers since “The Catch” on Jan. 10, 1992. It happened during the NFC Championship game at Candlestick Park. Dallas lead the game with 51 seconds to play when a Niners’ receiver leaped in the air like a cheetah, snagged the ball, scored and the 49ers won 28-27.
Now, I like the 49ers or at least one player, No. 7 Colin Kaepernick who decided to protest racial injustice and police brutality by refusing to stand up during the national anthem. I don’t believe that I would have protested this way but this is America, and I admire him for taking a non-violent stance against racism and police abuse.
But some cops are upset by Kaepernick’s comments about police brutality and accusations that officers “murder minorities.” They are also frustrated by the San Francisco quarterback’s decision to wear socks during practice that depict pigs in police uniforms, according to the police union.
Kaepernick’s demonstrations have been met with criticism along with support, including from many servicemen and veterans. The 49er backup QB announced that he is giving $1 million to poor communities. So he is also putting his money to backup his mouth.
This country will survive, and the flag, which has been burned, trampled, spat upon and even outlasted the turbulent Vietnam War protests, will continue to fly long after Kaepernick has left the NFL.
What is disturbing is that the Santa Clara police union saying that its officers might stop volunteering to work for pay at San Francisco 49ers’ home games.
I agree with the cops, however, Kaepernick should stop wearing those silly socks during practice. It shows immaturity and makes him look like a clown.
But cops aren’t professional football players. They are public servants and are, by law, held to higher standards. Also police officers raise their right hands and swear an oath to protect the community, making sure protestors including groups such as the despicable Nazis, KKK or other hate groups are allowed to exercise their constitutional right to hold up messages or speak in public without being hurt.
By being public servants, police officers work for taxpayers and should realize that criticism goes with the powerful job of having a badge and wearing a gun. Nowhere in their job description does it say that they are protected from criticism or protests or hurt feelings.
Unions in recent years have lost much of their credibility and respect by defending every police fatal shooting, including the shooting of a black man in the back while he is running away and the choking to death of another black who was selling single cigarettes.
So protestors like Kaepernick or those involved with groups like Black Lives Matter feel like they have been forced to go out into the streets, sports arenas and elsewhere to demand justice.
Police unions for the most part circle the wagons, refuse to offer constructive solutions, criticize those who speak out about police brutality and fatal shootings and now, refuse to provide security at 49er games.
Yeah, that will earn cops a lot of respect and make it easier for police officers to do their jobs.
BTW: The most popular selling NFL jersey is Kaepernick, No. 7. It was at number 20 before the protest.
TRUMP’S PASTOR: Yeah, But…
The pastor who led a religious rally at the Republican National Convention and is an avid Trump supporter has problems telling the truth.
This man of the cloth posted lies on his website about this background, and when pressed by CNN about the false statements, Pastor Mark Burns walked out of the interview and his own church.
Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing
The Bible states that Satan looked Jesus in the eye while they were in the desert and quoted scripture to the Son of God.
Specifically, Satan quoted a portion of Psalm 9:11-12 to Jesus. This story can be found in Matthew 4:1-11
Also the Bible says the devil has the ability to turn himself into an angel of light (Corinthians 11:13-152)
“And no marvel, for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.”
So it is no surprise that a well-schooled con man like Donald Trump can go into a half-empty black church in Detroit and try to charm some people into believing that he cares about them and wants to be their political messiah.
He claims that he will solve all their woes, bring jobs to the city, jump start the closed manufacturing plants. He talked about the miracle of faith, peace etc.etc.etc…
“I fully understand the African-American population has suffered,’ Trump said. “I will do something about it.”
The GOP candidate called for a “Civil Rights Agenda.”
The only thing that was missing in this political charade was the fish and loaves, and a tale about a miracle on how someone was able to convince 98 percent of blacks to vote for a racist.
Most blacks realize that Trump is a political chameleon that is honing in on his skills — bamboozling, manipulating and conning people to make a buck or get votes.
Trump will say whatever he believes the audience in front of him wants to hear.
Last week, Trump went to Mexico and gave one speech about immigration and called it a refugee and humanitarian problem, and turned around on the same day at Phoenix and talked about building a multi-billion-dollar wall to keep the criminals and drug dealers out, making Mexico pay for it and deporting millions.
So, beware of racists and liars who come in sheep’s clothing or well-tailored and expensive suits.
